Durham Irrigation District Welcomes Derek Sohnrey to the Board
The Durham Irrigation District board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Derek Sohnrey to its Board of Directors. The board approved Sohnrey’s appointment at its meeting on April 16, 2024.
“The Durham Irrigation District is honored to welcome Derek Sohnrey to its Board of Directors and looks forward to benefiting from his expertise and leadership in the years to come,” said Matt Doyle, Chairman of the Board for DID.
Sohnrey is a 5th generation farmer from Durham and hopes he can continue his family’s history of involvement on the DID board.
“I’m pretty excited to be the third generation of Sohnreys to serve on the DID board. My great grandfather Howard served for ten years and grandfather Ivan served for fifteen years so I at least need to serve longer than that!” said Sohnrey of his appointment.
A graduate of Chico State University with a degree in Agricultural Business, Derek brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the board. Derek's journey in agriculture began with humble roots, as he planned to take over the family farm after completing his education. As one of the three brothers managing Sohnrey Family Foods, Derek's responsibilities span across multiple facets of agricultural operations, from cultivating rice and almonds to overseeing the family-owned store. He has a deep appreciation for the intersection of technology and traditional farming practices.
Sohnrey, a Durham native, currently lives in Durham with his wife Amy and three daughters Georgia, Goldie, and Gracie. In his free time he enjoys traveling with his family, playing with his daughters and spending time in the great outdoors.
